Operation
Prime the ProMix PD TSL Auto Lube
System
1. Fill the G3 Pro fluid reservoir with Graco Throat Seal
Lubricant (TSL). (See the G3 Pro Automatic
Lubrication Pump manual, "Filling Oil Unit".)
2. To prime the system for the first time -
a. Set the ON Time to 15 minutes. (See G3 Pro
Automatic Lubrication Pump manual,
"Instructions/ON Time/Programming ON Time".)
b. Prime the G3 Pro pump and start the pump
using the Manual Run button. (See the G3 Pro
Automatic Lubrication Pump manual, "Priming"
and "Control Panel Overview".)
c. Observe the TSL fluid flow through the main line
from the G3 Pro pump to the CSP divider valve,
and then out to each lube point and into the
waste container. It will take several minutes to
fill out the fluid lines.
d. Repeat the Manual Run cycles as needed to
fully prime and fill all lines.
ON/OFF Time Guidelines
Based on each installation and application ON times
and frequency of automatic lubrication needs will vary. If
you have experienced rapid contamination of a ProMix
PD pump TSL or a short pump seal life without an Auto
Lube system installed, it is recommend that you start
with a relatively high ON time and frequency (lower OFF
time between ON time cycles). Monitor the TSL waste
for contamination and adjust accordingly.
Pump seal life varies greatly depending on the types of
fluid used, though one of the most important
preventative maintenance steps that can extend the
12
pump life is regular and proper TSL lubrication. The TSL
maintains a barrier to slow the process of paint drying or
catalyst reacting with moisture in the air and
crystallizing. Replacing stagnant TSL with fresh TSL
clears the contamination away from the seal/rod
interface area which then slows the wear process and
leads to longer seal life.
NOTE: See Table 2: ON Time per Lube Point, page
13, for recommended ON/OFF Times for your ProMix
PD TSL Auto Lube system. A good starting point is to
provide 2 cc per lube point of the TSL per hour. On a
new installation, closely monitor the condition of the
waste TSL for any contamination and adjust the
lubrication amount up or down as needed. The G3 Pro
pump will continue to run the programmed ON/OFF
cycle times when the unit is powered regardless if
ProMix PD operation is occurring or not (e.g. off shift or
weekends). Shut power off to the G3 Pro pump if you do
not want automatic fresh TSL dispensing to continue.
When powered is restored the pump will resume the
cycle with the same amount of time remaining in the
cycle as when the power was turned off (unless you
have the Prelube feature enabled on the G3 Pro pump).
Monitor the G3 Pro fluid reservoir level and replenish
with TSL before it runs low. Running the unit out of fluid
supply will allow air to enter the fluid lines which can
introduce moisture (humidity) and cause catalyst to cure
and damage the ProMix PD u-cup seals. If air is
introduced into the fluid stream repeat the priming
procedure above until all air is purged clear of the
ProMix PD throat cartridges. A low level detection kit is
available as an accessory for the G3 Pro pump.
G3 Pro pump volumetric output is approximately 4
cc/min. Output flow rate is dependent on the fluid
viscosity and the pressure. For a low pressure
application with the TSL lubricant, the fluid's actual
volume output will be slightly higher, but consistent over
time. Therefore, use Table 2: ON Time per Lube Point
as a guide for initial timer settings.
