accordance with the assembly instructions before it is used.
The charger does not have an ON/OFF switch. The On and Off commands are
controlled by plugging the charger into a 120V AC electrical wall outlet only
after the battery connections have been made.
Charging
1.
Ensure that all of the charger components are in place and in good working
condition, for example, the plastic boots on the battery clips.
2.
Connect the battery following the precautions listed in sections 6 and 7.
3.
Connect the AC power following the precautions listed in section 8. Make
sure to place the charger on a dry, non-flammable surface like metal or
concrete.
4.
Select the appropriate settings for your battery.
Startup Defaults: When first turned on, the charger will default to the following
startup settings:
Battery Type: Standard
Battery Voltage: 12 Volts
Charge Rate: OFF (No charge rate selected)
After 10 minutes if no buttons are pressed or no charge rate is selected, the
charger will automatically start charging at the following defaults:
Charge Current: The lowest charge rate setting available, usually 2 amps.
Charge Voltage: The lowest charge rate voltage available, usually 14.7
volts (Gel Cell), if not, then 15.4 volts (AGM), otherwise it will be 16.0 volts
(Standard battery).
Automatic Voltage Detection
When the charger is connected to a battery, it will automatically determine
whether the connected battery is a 6 volt battery or a 12 volt battery. This
eliminates the possibility of using the wrong voltage setting. The display will
show either 6 or 12 depending on what battery voltage the charger detects.
Thermal Runaway
As a safety precaution, the charger will automatically reduce the output current
if it detects the battery may be getting too hot.
NOTE: This charger is equipped with an auto-start feature. It will not supply
current to the battery clips until a battery is properly connected. Meaning, the
clips will not spark if touched together.
Battery Percent and Charge Time: This charger adjusts the charging
time in order to charge the battery completely, efficiently and safely. The
microprocessor automatically performs the necessary functions. This section
includes guidelines that can be used to estimate charging times.
