Diagnostics of the Compact FF Link
Bus address, diagnostic address, and slot
Bus address
You can operate a maximum of 31 FF devices on a FOUNDATION Fieldbus. You assign a
bus address to each FF device on the FOUNDATION Fieldbus. Additional information can be
found in Commissioning Manual Process Control System PCS 7, FOUNDATION Fieldbus
(http://www.siemens.com/pcs7-documentation).
Diagnostic address
The diagnostic address of the Compact FF Link is assigned automatically in PCS 7. You can
find the diagnostic address on the "General" tab in the object properties in HW Config.
Slot (virtual)
PCS 7 assigns a virtual slot for diagnostic communication to each object present on the
FOUNDATION Fieldbus. Some slots are assigned automatically. Since you can operate a
maximum of 31 FF devices on a FOUNDATION Fieldbus, the FF devices occupy a maximum

Redundancy: Active channel
The Compact FF Link is communicating
with the DP master and the FF devices.
● FF devices are exchanging data. At
least one FF device has an incorrect
Physical Device (PD) tag.
● A diagnostic message is available.
The settings that are downloaded to the
integrated field device coupler of the
Compact FF Link do not match the hard‐
ware configuration
There is a problem on the FF segment
(wire break, short circuit)
Evaluate the diagnos‐
tics of the Compact
FF Link and check
the reported FF devi‐
ces.
Check the position of
the "RING" DIP
switch of both Com‐
pact FF Links.
Check the configura‐
tion of the integrated
field device coupler in
the project.
Check the wiring of
the FF segment be‐
tween both Compact
