Two sets of holes are used in the mounting brackets and front-mount flanges to attach
the chassis to a rack. The holes within each set are spaced at 2 U (3.5 in. or 8.9 cm) and
3 U (5.25 in. or 13.3 cm). The router; can be mounted in any rack that provides holes
spaced at those distances.
Always secure the rack to the structure of the building. If your geographical area is subject
to earthquakes, bolt the rack to the floor. For maximum stability, also secure the rack to
ceiling brackets.

When planning the installation site, you need to allow sufficient clearance around the
rack (see Figure 22 on page 44):
For the cooling system to function properly, the airflow around the chassis must be
unrestricted. "M320 Cooling System Description" on page 37 depicts the airflow in the
router.
For service personnel to remove and install hardware components, there must be
adequate space at the front and back of the router. We recommend that you allow at
least 30 in. (72.6 cm) in front of the rack and 24 in. (61.0 cm) behind the rack.

The router has two adjustable center-mounting brackets that are initially attached to
the mounting holes closest to the rear of the chassis. You can move the pair of adjustable
center-mounting brakcets to one of 11 positions on the side of the chassis. The mounting
holes for connecting the mounting brackets to the chassis are spaced 0.984 in. (25 mm)
apart.
