    Certain precautions are necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of a laser printer. The following list of precautions applies whenever you open the printer cover. Even if you are familiar with other types of printers, be sure to follow these precautions carefully.

    Carefully unpack the outer carton. At the top of the carton is the accessory pack containing several printer components. Beneath the pack is the printer itself, which is protected by white foam packing material. Note: If you already followed the instructions on your unpacking sheet, skip to the section on carrying the printer.

This requires having the correct interface cable and selecting the right communications settings.

    FX Emulation Your laser printer offers FX emulation which enables you to use application programs written for FX printers. To use FX emulation, you must use SelecType to choose it; see Chapter 3 for details. FX emulation lets you use commercial software designed for FX printers.

    Maintenance Messages The printer’s display lets you know when you need to perform routine maintenance procedures. The toner cartridge and drum unit must be replaced on a regular basis. The messages described below tell you to perform these tasks. when It is recommended that you keep in stock at least one drum unit and several replacement toner cartridges.
