SERVICE INFORMATION
HARD STARTING
Check the fuel level.
Sufficient fuel
Check whether fuel is reaching the
carburetor by pressing the priming bulb.
Reaching the carburetor
Remove the spark plug and check for
wet or fouled electrodes.
Wet
• Clean the electrodes and let them
dry. Restart the engine, taking care
not to apply the choke excessively.
• If excessively wet, check the
carburetor for flooding.
Install the spark plug on the plug cap
and ground the electrode. Pull the recoil
starter and check for sparks
Good spark
Install a compression gauge in the plug
hole. Pull the recoil starter several
times to check the cylinder

Normal cylinder
compression
Install the spark plug and start the
engine according to the starting
procedure.

Refuel.
• Check for restriction in the fuel tube
or fuel filter P. 3-14.
• Check for restriction and wear of the
carburetor diaphragm or valve

Check for restrictions in the carburetor
port and nozzle P. 5-3, P. 5-8.
• Replace the spark plug with a new
one and check for spark.
• Check for current leakage caused by
damage on the high tension cord.
• Check the ignition coil P.
Check for carbon deposits in the
combustion chamber. Clean if
necessary.
• Check for correct valve clearance
P. 3-10.
• Check for worn piston, piston rings,
or cylinder P. 9-6.
