EXCALIBUR CAD
Image Menu
The Image menu allows the user to modify the map image
display scale. This menu provides the following selections:
Redraw - redraws the screen, updating all images. Normally
this is done automatically when drawing or editing
functions are completed, but may occasionally be
necessary when an operation has been canceled with the
right mouse button.
Last - returns the image to the previously selected scale and
origin.
Window - zooms in on a particular area of the image. Select
the starting corner with the left mouse button, move the
mouse to the ending corner and click the left mouse button
again. The selected area zooms in the screen.
Double - blows up the image to twice its current size. The
image areas that expand outside of the screen are not lost,
and are redrawn if the image is rescaled to a smaller size.
Half - shrinks the image to half of its current size.
Zoom - scales the image by selecting a percentage of the
original image. To determine original image size and
position, see "Origin" below. Also allows user to select
starting coordinates. The Zoom Display dialog box is
illustrated below.
Origin - returns the display to the original scale
(approximately 640 by 400 units) and origin point (0, 0 at
the upper left corner).
All - sets the image scale to "best fit" size and origin so all of
the image fits into the display area of the screen.
The Image menu functions change the scale of the display. It
is important to distinguish between scaling
the display. Object scaling (Editing Objects, page 3-12)
changes the size of a selected object in the current image,
while display scaling changes the scale of the whole screen.
Display scaling allows the user to adjust the complete image to
fit the screen by increasing or decreasing the scale. It also
allows the user to temporarily zoom in to a particular part of
the image for detailed drawing.
Note: Icons are not rescaled or moved when the map image
is rescaled. If the image is rescaled after icons have been
placed, a warning box, illustrated below, is displayed
alerting the user that the icons may not appear correctly in
the rescaled image.
When Excalibur CAD is started, the "Origin" display scale is
640 by 400 units, with the upper-left corner defined as 0, 0.
The total "mapping area" of an image is 65536 units wide by
65536 units high. No point can be at an X or Y coordinate less
than -32767 or greater than 32766. If drawing is attempted
outside of these bounds, an error message is displayed.
The Image menu functions change the display scaling of the
image by increasing or decreasing the scale. The image can
not be shrunk to display an area greater than 65536 units wide
or high. For example, if "Half" is selected for a displayed
image, then half again, half again, etc., eventually a screen that
is greater than the maximum number of units is reached, thus
generating an error message.
The pan buttons in the lower right corner of the CAD program
window (see page 3-11) are used to scroll or pan the display
within the total mapping area. This changes the display origin
point, but not the display scale.
Drawings appear faster and cleaner in Excalibur SE viewing
when the display is kept near the "Origin" size of 640 by 400.
This size is independent of monitor resolution; the Excalibur
SE programs can be used at 640 X 480, 800 X 600, or 1024 X
768 monitor resolutions.
