Appendix F:
Settings in BIOS
Note
Perform this procedure only if you have not successfully
installed your hardware as described in Chapter 2. This
procedure may be difficult, but with the help of your
computer's documentation you should be able to clear up any
remaining problems.
In your computer's manual, find the section on the BIOS Setup
program. (BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System.)
1.
Shut down your computer and restart it.
2.
Enter the BIOS Setup program, as described in your
computer's documentation, and disable COM 2.
Note
Some computers may not use the BIOS settings to control the
COM ports. Check your computer's documentation to see if
you have to reset jumpers or switches instead.
3.
Save the new settings and exit Setup.
The BIOS automatically reboots your computer.
4.
In Windows 95, choose Control Panel from the Settings
command in the Start menu.
5.
Double-click the System icon.
6.
Click the Device Manager tab.
7.
Find the Ports (COM & LPT) device and click the
This expands the device list under Ports.
8.
Select Communications Port (COM 2).
9.
Click the Remove button in the Device Manager window.
This removes the device currently assigned to COM 2.
10.
When Windows 95 displays the Confirm Device Removal
warning, click OK.
11.
Double-click Modem in the Device Manager window.
12.
Double-click the TA/V.34 or TA icon.
13.
Click the Resources tab.
