INTRODUCTION

YORK Millennium YCAR chillers are complete fac-
tory-packaged units designed for water or water-glycol
cooling. All units are designed to be located outside on
the roof of a building or at ground level.
The units are completely assembled with all intercon-
necting refrigerant piping and internal wiring, ready for
field installation.
Prior to delivery, the unit is pressure tested, evacuated,
and fully charged with refrigerant and oil in each of the
two independent refrigerant circuits. After assembly, an
operational test is performed with water flowing through
the cooler to ensure that each refrigerant circuit oper-
ates correctly.
All external structural parts are covered with architec-
turally neutral "Desert Sand" (Munsell #10YR6-2)
baked-on enamel powder paint. This provides a finish
which, when subjected to ASTM B117, 500 hour, 5%
salt spray conditions, shows breakdown of less than
3 mm (1/8") on either side of a scribed line (equivalent
to ASTM D1654 rating of "6".

Design is in accordance with applicable sections of
ASME Pressure Vessel Code, NFPA 70 (National Elec-
trical Code), U.L. and cU.L. Standards, and ASHRAE/
ANSI-15 Safety Code for Mechanical Refrigeration.
All exposed power wiring routed through liquid-tight,
non-metallic conduit.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The chiller consists of two reciprocating compressors
in two separate refrigerant circuits, a single shell-and-
tube DX evaporator, economizers, an air-cooled con-
denser, expansion valves, fans and modular frame rails.

COMPRESSOR

The chiller has accessible, semi-hermetic, reciprocat-
ing compressors. All rotating parts are statically and
dynamically balanced.
Motor
The compressor motors are refrigerant gas-cooled, with
integral temperature sensing and external current sens-
