The resultant tool orientation is determined
from:

Path tangent
Surface normal vector
Lead angle LEAD
Tilt angle TILT at end of block

LEAD describes the angle between the sur-
face normals and the new tool orientation in
the plane set up by the path tangent and the
surface normals
The tilt angle corresponds to a rotation of the

tool in the plane perpendicular to the surface
normals
.

The lead angle is often used to orient the tool
at a fixed setting angle to the machining plane.
This increases the cutting performance. For
example, a ball mill touches the surface to be
machined precisely with the tool tip when the
orientation is perpendicular. However, the
rotation and therefore the cutting speed is 0 at
this point of the milling cutter.
The following program sequence corresponds
approximately to that shown in the graphic.
