Radio
T
A utom atic Antenna
The antenna switch can be actuated
with the radio sw itched on and the key
in steering lock positions " 1" o r " 2" .
•
If the antenna switch is in center
position, the antenna extends
autom atically to a specific height,
•
if the antenna switch is engaged in
the " m ax" position, the antenna
extends fully,
•
if the antenna switch is engaged in
the " o ff" position, the antenna will
30
not extend or will retract co m p le
tely.
The height of the antenna can fu rth e r
m
more be adjusted continuously by
actuating the antenna switch:
•
If the antenna switch is in center
position, the antenna will extend to
f
the specific height. The antenna
can be fu rth e r extended or re
tracted to any height by rocking
the switch (not engaging it).
•
If the antenna is to be retracted,
e. g. fo r playing cassettes, engage
switch in " o ff" position.
When the key is turned to steering
lock position " 0 " or the radio is turned
off, the antenna will retract co m p le
tely.
FM Reception
FM signals travel in a " lin e -o f-sig h t" .
Reflections or " dead spots" may
cause cancellations or loss of the
signal as well as strong signal over
loading or capture.
Low ering the antenna height in strong
signal areas may elim inate m any of
the resulting p roblem s and restore
good tone quality. Flowever, fring e
area reception requires the full anten
na length to captu re weak incom ing
signals. The antenna can be operated
by depressing the respective side
of the ro cker switch.
FM Stereo Reception
When tuned to a FM stereo station,
the red Stereo Indicator Lamp will
light up. Because m ore inform ation is
carried in the FM stereo signal than in
FM m onoraul broadcasts, flutter,
cancellation and capture effects may
be even m ore noticeable. The noise-
free broadcast range, therefore, is
som ew hat less and accurate tuning to
the strongest available stereo sta
tions is required, especially for fringe
area reception.
Your radio is equipped with a special
ly designed Stereo D ecoder which
autom atically switches the radio from
stereo to m ono reception if the signal
becom es too weak. However, the
Stereo Indicator Lam p rem ains lit to
avoid the distracting flick e r at short-
tim e signal changes. The radio will
return to the stereo m ode autom a
tically when signal strength per
mits it.
