BERT

As an aid to isolating problems on an interface, Bit-Error-Rate-Tests (BERT) configurations
can be setup on CT3, T3, E1, and T1 interfaces. A BERT test configures the hardware to
transmit a predefined pattern of bits in the payload for a selected channel. Test equipment at
the far end of the connection can then detect that pattern, and test the data for bit errors, or
the bit pattern can be transmitted back to the interface by the remote device and used by the
interface hardware to detect the incoming pattern and any bit errors in the pattern.
To start a test on a specific module, use the test command with the module identifier. The
show command may now be used to display the results of the test. After the test is completed,
the test is terminated using the no command.

Configuring BERT testing

To configure a BERT test, perform the following steps:
Procedure steps
1. Issue the test command, accompanied by the module type and identifier.
