Troubleshooting a Data Link Layer problem
or access mode. Hence it is mandatory to configure port either as trunk, hybrid or access
port.
WAN link with PPP encapsulation goes into Down state when VLAN Stacking
enabled
On PPP L2 interfaces, the PPP protocol negotiates the frame format (802.3 or 802.1Q) based
on the type configured. For example, if you have a port configured as ACCESS then it will try
to negotiate based on 802.3. Similarly the trunk ports try to negotiate based on 802.1Q. For a
link to come up both sides should either be negotiating based on either 802.1Q or 802.3. If the
non-compatible types are configured, the negotiation fails and link never comes up. VLAN
Stacking does not play any part in frame format negotiations and work on top of it. To resolve
this issue, configure both end of the link as access, trunk or hybrid mode prior to configuring
VLAN Stacking.

Troubleshooting port mirroring

Use the following procedures to troubleshoot port mirroring problems.

Troubleshooting a configuration failure

• The port mirroring feature is supported only on the non-CPU Ethernet ports.
• You can configure a maximum of one analyzer (destination) port for each slot.
• Each analyzer port can only monitor 8 ports for TX and RX (both mode). There is no limit
for number of ports that can be monitored for RX (receive mode).
/configure# mirror source ethernet5/1 destination ethernet6/1
direction both
As shown above the analyzer and monitor ports can reside either on the same or different slot.
The direction of packets can be specified as both or receive. Use a value of both to mirror both
transmit and receive packets. Use a value of receive to mirror receive packets only.
/configure# mirror source ethernet5/1 destination ethernet7/1
direction receive
The configuration command may fail for one of the following reasons:
