Chapter 1: Introduction

Using the firefighters telephone

The VM-MFK Master Firefighters telephone provides two-way communication
between firefighters in the building and the Fire Command Center. You can also
use the telephone handset as the paging microphone.
To answer an incoming call:
1. Pick up the telephone handset.
2. Press the Buzzer Silence button.
3. Press the appropriate phone call connect button.
Note:
Typically, the phone call connect buttons are located above the
firefighters telephone on a control-indicating display module, and labeled
"Floor 1 Phone" or equivalent.
To make an announcement using the handset:
1. Select the area to receive the page by pressing the appropriate page function
button. The button's LED will light when the system is ready to receive the
page.
2. Press the Page by Phone button then wait for the LED to light.
3. Begin speaking.

Remote annunciation

R-Series and K-R-Series remote annunciators are VM-1 control panel
accessories that communicate with the panel through RS-485 communication.
They provide common control switches, system status indicators, zone event
messages, and zone status indicators at remote locations throughout the
protected premises. R-Series and K-R-Series remote annunciators that are
compatible with the VM-1 life safety system are shown in Figure 10 on page 15
and Figure 11 on page 17. See the R-Series Remote Annunciators and
Expanders Installation and Operation Guide (P/N 3100969-EN) or K-R-Series
Remote Annunciators and Expanders Installation and Operation Guide (P/N
3102382-EN) for more information.
