*1 OPC and PCA : When a disc which has not been finalized is loaded in the CD recorder, it perform test writing
in a specific area in the disc in order to calculate the optimum laser irradiation intensity and
time for the disc. This operation is referred to as the OPC (Optimum Power Control)
processing and the area in which test writing is performed is referred to as PCA (Power
Calibration Area).
*2 TOC
: Any CD-R/RW contains the recording of TOC (Table Of Contents) data in addition to audio
signals. The TOC contains the non-rewritable data among that on the tracks, playing time and
text data.
*3 PMA
: With a CD-R/RW which is not finalized, the TOC data is temporarily written in a specific area in
the disc. The area in which the temporary writing is performed is referred to as PMA (Program
Memory Area). Additional writing in the PMA is performed every time recording or Skip Play
registration is made on the disc.
*4 DAO
: The DAO (Disc At Once) method is a recording formats with which all data are written in batch
in order of lead-in, data then lead-out. With this format, additional recording of data (in the
unused area of disc) is not possible.

÷ The loaded disc is a playback-only
disc.
÷ An attempt is made to erase a CD-R.
÷ An attempt is made to unfinalize a
disc which was been recorded in the
DAO*4 format on other equipment.
