Cables and Connections
3.2.2 RS-485 Connections – CRS-311 to Modems
The DB‐9 RS‐485 Multi‐drop Cable provides the communication path between the CRS‐311 and
the CDM‐Qx/QxL modems. There are two RS‐485 cables – both are available from
Comtech EF Data:
•
The standard CA‐0000096 shielded cable to guard against EMC (Electromagnetic
Compatibility) concern, or
•
The optional CA‐0000095 ribbon cable..
Referring to Figure 3‐1, connect and secure the standard CA‐0000096 or optional CA‐0000095
RS‐485 Multi‐drop Cable between the CRS‐311 and each CDM‐Qx/QxL as follows:
•
Connect and secure a CA/WR11418‐1 RS‐485 Terminator to the RS‐485 Multi‐drop Cable
far‐end connector.
•
Connect and secure one end of the CA/WR11419‐1 9‐pin Null Modem Cable to the
DB‐9F connector labeled "485 Pass‐Through" on the CRS‐311 CRS‐230 System Controller
module.
•
Connect and secure the appropriate RS‐485 Multi‐drop Cable to the CDM‐Qx/QxL and to
the Null Modem Cable DB‐9M connector.
3.2.3 Control 'Y' Cable Connections – CRS-311 to Modems
All Data Traffic configurations require that the CA‐0000009 Control 'Y' Cable must be connected
between the CRS‐311 and to each CDM‐Qx/QxL as follows:
Referring to Figure 3‐2 through Figure 3‐6:
•
From the HD‐15F connector labeled "J1" on the RMI or TMI, to
•
The DB‐15M connectors labeled "Alarms" on the CDM‐Qx/QxL modulator and
demodulator modules (located on the modem chassis rear panel).
Further:
•
From the Control 'Y' Cable connector labeled "J1" to
•
The modulator "Alarms" connector.

From the Control 'Y' Cable connector labeled "J2" to

The demodulator "Alarms" connector.
