PIM Commands

In this section, the commands used to configure the Protocol Independent Multicast -Dense Mode (PIM-
DM) and the Protocol Independent Multicast - Sparse Mode (PIM-SM) are described. The PIM-DM and
PIM-SM consist of multicast routing protocols that provide scalable inter-domain multicast routing via the
Internet, that is, independent of any mechanisms utilized by a particular unicast routing protocol. Only one
PIM mode may be in operation at a given time.

ip pim dense
Enables the PIM Dense mode across the router administratively.
The no command administratively disables the PIM Dense mode across the router.

Parameters
None
The multicast address of the source group.
The IP Mask for the source group.
The IP address of the neighbor which is the source for the packets for a
specified multicast address.
The interface used to receive the packets sent by the sources.
The distance in hops to the source subnet. This field has a different
meaning than the Interface Metric field.
The expiry time in seconds, which is the time left for this route to age
out.
The time when a specified route was learnt, in seconds.
