b. Flex two sides of the retainer downward to release the microprocessor from the retainer

Note: Touch only the edges of the microprocessor. Do not touch the gold contacts.

c. Carefully wipe the thermal grease off the old microprocessor. Place the old microprocessor on a
static-protective surface.
6. To install a microprocessor, do the following:
a. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new microprocessor to any unpainted surface
on the outside of the computer. Then, remove the new microprocessor from the package.
b. Remove the protective cover that protects the gold contacts from the new microprocessor.
c. Note the orientation of the new microprocessor. Hold the new microprocessor by its edges and then
insert one end of the microprocessor into the retainer
as shown

and lower the new microprocessor straight down into the microprocessor socket
Note: The small triangle on one corner of the new microprocessor is the microprocessor orientation
indicator. The new microprocessor is in the correct orientation when this indicator faces the triangle
on the microprocessor retainer.
