Configure Identification dialog box

a. Type an Edge Switch name of 24 or fewer alphanumeric characters in the Name box.
Each Edge Switch should be configured with a unique name.
If the Edge Switch is installed on a public LAN, the name should reflect the Edge Switch's
Ethernet network Domain Name Server (DNS) host name. For example, if the DNS host
name is hpes232.hp.com, enter hpes232.
b. Click the Copy > box if you want to use the name in the Name box as the nickname for the
Edge Switch's WWN.
The nickname will appear instead of the WWN in Element Manager views.
c. Type an Edge Switch description of 255 or fewer alphanumeric characters in the Description
box.
d. Type the Edge Switch's physical location (255 or fewer alphanumeric characters) in the
Location box.
e. Type the name of a contact person (255 or fewer alphanumeric characters) in the
Contact box.

Configuring Edge Switch management style

Perform this procedure to set the Edge Switch to Open Systems management style or Fibre
Connection (FICON) management style. (For complete procedures on configuring this optional
feature, see the HP StorageWorks Edge Switch Element Manager user guide.) This setting affects
only the management style used to manage the Edge Switch; it does not affect port operation. That
is, OSI devices can communicate with each other if the Edge Switch is set to FICON management
style; FICON devices can communicate with each other if the Edge Switch is set to Open Systems
management style.
NOTE:
If the FICON management appliance feature is enabled, the default management style is
FICON and the Open Systems management style cannot be enabled.
Typically, FICON management style is used when attaching an IBM S/390 Parallel Enterprise or
IBM zSeries server to the Edge Switch and implementing inband Edge Switch management through
a FICON channel.
To configure the Edge Switch management style:
1.
Ensure that the Edge Switch is set offline.
For instructions, see
"Setting the Edge Switch online and
