12. Configuring IP Multicast for Shortest Path
Bridging
Global:
SPBM Multicast must be enabled globally on Backbone Edge Bridges (BEBs) which are directly or
indirectly (via Layer 2 switches) connected to IP Multicast senders and receivers. There is no need to
enable SPBM Multicast on Backbone Core Bridges (BCBs).
To enable SPB Multicast globally:
isis spbm <1-100> multicast enable
Layer 2 VSNs:
Enable IGMP Snooping on the C-VLAN that is assigned to a Layer 2 VSN to transport IP Multicast data
over the VSN. This will also enable IGMP Proxy for the C-VLAN.
Since the IGMP Querier on the BEB uses a source address of 0.0.0.0 by default, a user may be required
to configure a snoop-querier in certain situations where a Layer 2 switch located between the BEB and
the Multicast Sender does not process IGMP Queries with a source IP address of 0.0.0.0.
Tip: It is ok to use a fictitious IP address as the querier address and the same address can be used
on all BEBs in the network.
To enable IP Multicast on C-VLAN 1001 that is part of a Layer 2 VSN, including the querier
address:
interface vlan 1001
ip igmp snooping
ip igmp snoop-querier-addr 10.1.255.201
exit
When using IGMPv3, the configuration is:
interface vlan 1001
ip igmp snooping
ip igmp ssm-snoop
ip igmp version 3
ip igmp snoop-querier-addr 10.1.255.201
exit
Note: SSM Snoop must be enabled before setting IGMP version to 3 and both ssm-snoop and
snooping must be enable for IGMPv3.
