tappet
clearance

with the thinnest
shim disc,

remedy
is to
grind
off
the stem
end
face
of the
valve
with a valve refacer,
thereby shortening

length
of
the
valve.

Weakened springs result in
reduced engine
power
output, and often ac-
count for the chattering noise coming from
the valve mechanism.
Check the springs for strength by measuring
their free lengths
and
also the force required
to compress them. If the limit indicated
below
is
exceeded
by the free length
reading
or if the
measured force d o a
not
fall within
the range specified,
replace with
a
SUZUKI
spring.

Decarbonize
the
combustion chambers.

Check the gasketed
surface
of
the cylinder
head for flatness
with a
straightedge
and
thickness
gauge,
taking a clearance reading at
several places indicated. If
the largest
reading at any
position
of the straightedge
ex-
ceeds the limit,
replace the cylinder
head.
