The use of noise emitting power tools
may be restricted to certain times by
national or local regulations.
If you have not used this model before:
Have your dealer or other experienced
user show you how it is operated or
attend a special course in its operation.
Minors should never be allowed to use a
chainsaw. Exceptions to this rule are
young persons older than 16 who have
been trained in special cutting
techniques with the tree surgery saw.
Keep bystanders, especially children,
and animals away from the work area.
The user is responsible for avoiding
injury to third parties or damage to their
property.
Do not lend or rent your chain saw
without the instruction manual. All users
must be specially trained in tree surgery
work with a tree surgery saw and be
familiar with this model and its operation.
To operate a chain saw you must be
rested, in good physical condition and
mental health. If you have any condition
that might be aggravated by strenuous
work, check with your doctor before
operating a chainsaw.
Do not operate the chain saw if you are
under the influence of any substance
(drugs, alcohol) which might impair
vision, dexterity or judgment.
To reduce the risk of accidents or injury,
put off the work in poor weather
conditions (rain, snow, ice, wind).
MSA 160 T
Remove the battery from
the power tool:
carrying out inspections,
adjustments or cleaning work
when working on the cutting
attachment
before leaving your chain saw
unattended
before transporting
before storing
before performing repairs or
maintenance work
in the event of danger or in an
emergency
This avoids the risk of the motor starting
unintentionally.
Intended use
This chain saw with a handle on the top
is a special chain saw for tree surgery
and cutting tasks in the crowns of living
trees.
A tree surgery chain saw is not for
typical tree felling or cutting firewood. A
conventional chain saw with wider
spaced handle must be used for tree
felling or cutting firewood.
The machine may only be used to saw
wood and wooden objects.
Do not use the machine for any other
purpose – risk of accidents!
Tree maintenance tasks may only be
carried out with appropriate safeguards
(e.g. lift bucket, personal protective
equipment, fall arrest system).
When climbing in trees, operate the
chain saw only with STIHL batteries type
AP placed directly in the machine. When
climbing in trees, the combination of
chain saw and STIHL backpack
batteries type AR or the STIHL battery
belt is not permitted – risk of accident!
Do not modify the machine in any way –
this may increase the risk of personal
injury. STIHL excludes all liability for
personal injury and damage to property
caused while using unauthorized
attachments.
The chain saw is designed for tree
surgery purposes, e. g. for pruning small
branches. It is therefore equipped as
standard without the bumper spike. A
bumper spike can however be fitted
(available as a special accessory).
Clothing and Equipment
Wear proper protective clothing and
equipment.
Clothing must be sturdy
but allow complete free-
dom of movement. Wear
snug-fitting clothing with
cut retardant inserts for
the feet, legs and fore-
arms – a safety
combination, not a coat.
Avoid clothing that could get caught on
branches or brush or moving parts of the
saw. Do not wear a scarf, necktie or
jewelry. Tie up and confine long hair
(e.g. with a hair net, cap, hard hat, etc.).
