Operating the Ignition Switch

1. Turn the ignition key to the Start position (Figure 13).
When the engines starts, release the key.
Important: Do not engage starter for more than 5
seconds at a time. If the engine fails to start allow
a 15 second cool-down period between attempts.
Failure to follow these instructions can burn out
the starter motor.
Note: Additional starting cycles may be required
when starting the engine for the first time after the fuel
system has been without fuel completely.
2. To stop the engine, turn the ignition key to the stop
position.

1. Sit down on the seat (Figure 14) and fasten the seat belt.
2. Move the motion controls outward to the neutral lock
position (Figure 14).
3. Set the parking brake (Figure 14); refer to Setting the
Parking Brake.
4. Move the blade control switch (PTO) to the Off
position (Figure 14).
5. Pull up on the Choke control before starting a cold
engine.
Note: A warm or hot engine may not require choking.

Move the throttle halfway between the fast and slow
positions (Figure 14).

7. Turn the ignition key to the Start position (Figure 13).

8. After the engine starts, push down on the Choke
control. If the engine stalls or hesitates, pull up on
the Choke control and let the engine run for a few
