REAR WHEELS
This Procedure Includes the Following:
Removing/Installing the Rear Wheels
Replacing Rear Wheel Handrim
Replacing/Repairing Rear Wheel Tire/Tube
Adjusting the Quick-Release Axle
WARNING
After making adjustments, always make sure
that parts are properly tightened BEFORE us-
ing the wheelchair.
NOTE: The procedures in this section apply to
NON-RECLINER models only EXCEPT where
noted. For RECLINER models, refer to PROCE-
DURE 10 of this manual.
NOTE: Refer to Procedure 1 - General Guidelines
which include GENERAL WARNINGS for the 9000SL,
9000XT, 9000XDT, and 9000XT RECLINER.
REMOVING/INSTALLING THE REAR
WHEELS
WARNING
If changing the size of the rear wheel or a
change in the SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT is de-
sired, this procedure must be performed by an
authorized Invacare dealer or qualified techni-
cian.
Permanent Axles (FIGURE 1)
NOTE: If replacing the same size rear wheel, note
the mounting position on the wheelchair frame
for proper reinstallation of the NEW rear wheel.
1. Remove the dust cap (if applicable) , mounting
screw and locknut that secure the rear wheel
and axle spacer (if applicable) to the wheelchair.
NOTE: Axle spacer is used only if wheelchair is
equipped with conventional arms.
2. Repeat STEP 1 for the opposite rear wheel.
3. To reinstall the rear wheel onto the wheelchair,
reverse STEPS 1-2.
NOTE: Make sure axle spacer is between rear
wheel and wheelchair frame if wheelchair is
equipped with conventional arms.

Quick-Release Axles (FIGURE 2)
WARNING
NEVER use quick-release axles on the 9000XDT
or 9000XT RECLINER wheelchairs.
NOTE: If replacing the same size rear wheel, note
the mounting position on the wheelchair frame
for proper reinstallation of the NEW rear wheel.
1. Push in the tip of the quick-release axle (with
wheel) and pull the axle out through the open-
ing in the center of the rear wheel and axle
spacer.
NOTE: Axle spacer is used only if wheelchair is
equipped with conventional arms.
2. Push in the tip of the quick-release axle again
and pull the axle out of the rear wheel.
3. Repeat STEPS 1-2 for the opposite rear wheel.
4. To reinstall the rear wheel onto the wheelchair,
reverse STEPS 1-3.
NOTE: Make sure axle spacer is between rear
wheel and wheelchair frame if wheelchair is
equipped with conventional arms.
