Phenomena specific to CMOS image
sensors
The following phenomena that may appear in
images are specific to CMOS (Complementary
Metal Oxide Semiconductor) image sensors.
They do not indicate malfunctions.
White flecks
Although the CMOS image sensors are produced
with high-precision technologies, fine white
flecks may be generated on the screen in rare
cases, caused by cosmic rays, etc.
This is related to the principle of CMOS image
sensors and is not a malfunction.
The white flecks especially tend to be seen in the
following cases:
• when operating at a high environmental
temperature
• when you have raised the master gain
(sensitivity)
• when operating in Slow-Shutter mode
Aliasing
When fine patterns, stripes, or lines are shot, they
may appear jagged or flicker.
Flicker
If shooting is made under lighting produced by
discharge tubes, such as fluorescent, sodium, or
mercury-vapor lamps, the screen may flicker,
colors may vary, or horizontal stripes may appear
distorted.
It is recommend to set the electronic shutter speed

areas.
Focal plane
Owing to the characteristics of the pickup
elements (CMOS sensors) for reading picture
signals, subjects that quickly move across the
screen may appear slightly skewed.
The luminance at the top and bottom of the screen
may change when shooting a flashlight or a light
source that quickly flashes.
Viewing 3D Video
• Viewing 3D video shot using this camcorder on
a 3D monitor can cause symptoms of
discomfort, such as eye fatigue, tiredness, or
nausea. It is recommended that you take regular
rest breaks when watching 3D video. The
duration and frequency of required rest breaks
will vary from person to person, so each person
must judge for themselves. If discomfort
occurs, stop watching 3D video until the
symptoms subside, and consult your doctor if
necessary. Also, please follow the instructions
provided with the software or the hardware
connected to the camcorder. Furthermore, the
sense of vision of young children (especially
children less than 6 years of age) is still in a
development stage. Before allowing young
children to view 3D video, please consult a
pediatrician or ophthalmologist. A responsible
adult should always supervise any children to
observe the above-mentioned precautions.
• The perception of 3D video varies depending on
the individual.
Phenomena related to connected optical
devices
This unit is used while optical devices, such as
lenses, are connected via C-mount. As a result,
optical performance and changes may affect the
pictures of the two cameras (colors, performance,
misalignment, etc.). These are not malfunctions
of the unit itself. For questions regarding
phenomena related to optical devices, contact the
manufacturer of the respective device.
