4.3 MEA2100 Headstages

The rear part of the MEA2100-System headstage contains the amplifiers and the data acquisition
for 120 channels and three independent stimulator units. The variable front part of the headstage
contains the contact unit for different kinds of MEAs.
Headstage for microelectrode arrays (MEAs) with 60 electrodes.
Headstage for two microelectrode arrays (MEAs) with 60 electrodes.
Headstage for two microelectrode arrays (MEAs) with 32 electrodes.
The rear part has connectors for the serial eSATAp connector to connect the headstage to
the interface board and for the connection between the integrated heating element(s) of the
headstage, and the Temperature Controller TCX in the base plate. The contact unit houses the
MEA(s) and features three grounding plugs for each MEA. These are internally interconnected
and enable the user to ground a Ag/AgCl reference electrode or external components, like
a perfusion system.
At the moment three different types of headstages are available for the MEA2100-System.
They are designed for in vitro applications. Other variants of headstages, for example for
in vivo application, are under development.
