• PLII MOVIE: Performs Pro Logic II movie
mode decoding. This setting is ideal for
movies encoded in Dolby Surround. In
addition, this mode can reproduce sound in
5.1 channels when watching videos of
overdubbed or old movies.
• PLII MUSIC: Performs the Pro Logic II
music mode decoding. This setting is ideal for
normal stereo sources such as CDs.
• PRO LOGIC: Performs Pro Logic decoding.
The source recorded in 2 channels is decoded
into 4.1 channels.
• SBS MULTI: Sound Broad System Multi
mode. This mode lets you enjoy audio
playback of all types of discs from multiple
speakers.
• VIRTUAL A: Creates three sets of virtual
surround speakers from the sound of the
actual front speakers (L/R).
• VIRTUAL B: Creates one set of virtual
surround speakers from the sound of the front
speakers (L/R) without using actual surround
speakers.
This mode is effective when the distance
between the front L and R speakers is short.
• V.M.DIM: Creates an array of virtual
surround speaker positions higher than the
listener from a single set of actual surround
speakers. This mode creates 5 pairs of virtual
speakers surrounding the listener at
approximately a 30° angle of elevation. The
effect differs according to the "BEHIND" or
"SIDE" setting of the surround speakers
(page 43).
• 2CH STEREO: This mode outputs the sound
from the left and right speakers. Standard 2
channel (stereo) sources completely bypass
the sound field processing. Multi channel
surround formats are downmixed to two
channels.
This allows you to play any source using the
left and right speakers.
• 2CH SURROUND/HP SURROUND: This
mode outputs sound with reverberations.

For some discs, the surround effect may not be as much
as expected.
Tip
As the sound field for DVD function differs from that
of other functions, you might find different sound field
when you switch to other functions from DVD
function.
