RECOIL STARTER AND A.C. MAGNETO

CHECKING THE STARTER CLUTCH

1.Check:
Starter one-way clutch 1
G
Cracks/damage → Replace.
Bolts 2 (starter clutch)
G
Loose → Replace with a new one, and clinch
the end of the bolt.
NOTE:
The arrow mark on the starter clutch must face
inward, away from the rotor.
Bolts (starter clutch):
30 Nm (3.0 m • kg, 22 ft • lb)
LOCTITE

Checking steps:
G
Install the starter wheel gear to the starter
clutch, and hold the starter clutch.
G
When
turning
counterclockwise È, the starter clutch and
the wheel gear should be engaged.
If not, the starter clutch is faulty. Replace it.
G
When
turning
clockwise É, the starter wheel gear should
turn freely.
If not, the starter clutch is faulty. Replace it.

2.Check:
Gear teeth (starter idle) 1
G
Gear teeth (starter wheel) 2
G
Burrs/chips/roughness/wear → Replace.
3.Check:
Starter wheel gear
G
(contacting surface)
Damage/pitting/wear → Replace.
