    EQUIPMENT GUIDLENES AND PRECAUTIONS Do not exceed the published weight limit of 250 lbs. Please note the weight limit applies to the user and all items carried or loaded onto the chair, activities such as lifting weights or towing may damage the chair and void the warranty.

    WARNINGS FOR THE USER YOU ARE CONSIDERED A PEDESTRIAN. Do not attempt to operate the chair on streets or highways. When crossing the street make sure to make eye contact with motorists and always wait until you are confident it is safe to proceed. If you are required to use the chair at night or when lighting is poor, use reflective tape on the chair or reflective clothing to ensure safe visibility.

    WHEELCHAIR SAFETY AND HANDLING FOLDI NG AND UNFOLDI NG THE CHAIR A. Unfolding Tilt the wheelchair sideways and towards you to take any weight off the opposite wheel. Push down on the top of the seat rails until the chair is fully open. WARNING: NEVER place your hands or fingers beneath the seat rail between the wheel and the frame.

    BALANCE AND STABI LITY Centre of Gravity Adjustments Your Wheelchair is equipped with several adjustments that affect the balance point or centre of gravity. In consultation with a health care advisor and with your authorized dealer, you can make the following adjustments which will impact safety and performance.

    SHI FTI NG POSI TI ONS I N THE CHAI R It may be necessary for you to engage in activities that require weight and balance shifts in the chair, such as changing clothes or reaching/bending towards objects. In order to complete these movements safely, always follow these instructions: Be careful to maintain your balance so that you can recover without strain on yourself or the chair.

    Make sure the occupants feet are securely on the footplates and that arms, hands, and fingers are clear of pinch points and wheels. Place one foot on the rear frame above the anti-tip tubes and apply downward pressure. Continue to press down and lift the front casters off the ground until the balance point is reached.

    TRANSFERS It is potentially dangerous to attempt unaided transfers; exceptional balance and agility is required. To ensure safety during transfers complete the following steps first: Work with your health care advisor to learn how to position your body for maximum support, and always have assistance until you can confidently complete the transfer process repeatedly.

    MAI NTAI N PERFORMANCE To keep the chair functioning as efficiently as possible pay attention to the following procedures and conditions for your routine: A. Safety Checklist The following items should be checked routinely to ensure optimal and safe performance of your wheelchair. If any of these things are not as outlined contact your dealer for service.

    C. Storage Store the wheelchair in a clean, dry area preferably indoors. Inspect the wheelchair fully if stored for longer than two weeks and have the wheelchair fully serviced by your authorized dealer if stored for longer than three months.     REMOVABLE COMPONENTS Your chair has come equipped with several removable components that assist in transfers, navigating tight spaces, storage, and transport. Never attempt to pick up the chair by any of the removable components, as they could be damaged and may not function normally in the future. A.

    FI GURE B Push Button In To remove the wheels, depress the button in the centre of the wheel as shown in Figure B. below. With the button depressed grab the spokes of the wheel and pull the wheel out. To replace the wheel, depress the quick-release button and slide the axle through the sleeve until the outside-quick release button pops out to its fully extended position.

    ADJUSTMENTS AND FITTING SEATI NG Your chair is equipped with a number of adjustable components that ensure proper fit, these adjustments may be made by yourself or your attendants as required – please ensure you have received training and instruction from your dealer and health care advisor prior to making any new changes.

    Make sure the inner sleeve is aligned properly. Slide the footrest to the desired height in keeping with the available settings. Reinsert and tighten the bolt at the new height. NOTE: The bolts used for this function are specially selected and may not fit or work with standard tools.

    CHAIR SET-UP The following components and settings can be adjusted for increased comfort and performance. Each of these adjustments must be made by an authorized dealer, in conjunction with a health care advisor. Failure to make these adjustments properly may result in complications and compromised safety and performance.

    D. Rear Seat Height The height of the seat at the rear can be changed in conjunction with or independently of, the front seat height.   • Page 22 The wheels should always be parallel to each other and the frame. In the event that modifications have compromised this orientation it may be necessary to realign the wheels. You may need to adjust this if the chair pulls to one side consistently regardless of tire pressure or weight shifts.

    This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser/user of our products. Future Mobility Healthcare Inc. warrants its Northern Lite Wheelchair to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of purchase. The frame is warranted for (5) five years of the original purchaser/user and the upholstery for 90 days, upon normal usage by original purchaser.
