3-2. Composition

This product contains a camera and a cradle (option for R30). The camera consists of 4 PC boards
(PCB_MAIN, PCB_CCD, PCB_BACK, PCB_JACK) and 8 FPCs (FPC_ZOOM, FPC_FRONT, FPC_HDD,
FPC_LCD, FPC_STROBE, FPC_CRADLECON, FPC_HEAD, FPC-BACK), lens unit, color LCD, flash unit, 1.8
inch HDD, etc. The cradle contains 3 PCB boards (PCB_CRADLEMAIN, PCB_CRADLESWITCH) and one
FPC (FPC_TOP). The descriptions for these items are shown below.

3-2-1. Camera

PCB_MAIN
PCB_MAIN is a board which contains a CPU that controls overall operations of the camera and a Sub-CPU
which monitors the power source. The function blocks mainly consists of: sub-microcomputer, voice coder,
PLL, DSP, SDRAM for DSP operation, gravity sensor, VIDEOAMP, AD, TG, VDRIVER, SD, GA,
LOCALAD, FLASH-ROM, LAN controller, LCD controller, motor controller, MPEG coder, SDRAM for
MPEG operation, power supply, battery charger, etc. The PCB_MAIN is connected to PCB_CCD,
PCB_BACK, PCB_JACK as well as FPC_ZOOM, FPC_FRONT, FPC_HDD, FPC_LCD, FPC_STROBE,
FPC_CRADLECON, FPC_HEAD, FPC_BACK. It controls the display on the LCD monitor, data
transmission/receiving with HDD and flash unit. In some cases, it will be connected to the cradle or the
supplied USB cable (R30 only).
- Sub-Microcomputer
It mainly monitors the power supply and battery charging, and controls the battery voltage gaining,
selecting the DC source, and communication with a remote controller.
- Voice-coder
It controls the A/D conversion and codec of audio signal from MIC. It has the ALC function for audio signal
from a microphone as well as the speaker AMP function.
- PLL
It generates a clock used for DSP, etc (27MHz, 25MHz, 48MHz, and 72MHz). It also performs a horizontal
synchronization between the CCD system and the VIDEO system.
- DSP
It conducts: image signal processing, USB communication control, SD card control, ATA communication
control, JPEG control, VIDEO digital signal control, VIDEO analog output control, etc. It controls overall
system by a built-in CPU.
- SDRAM for DSP operation
A memory for DSP operation. It is connected to DSP.
- Gravity sensor
A gravity censor used for HDD protection when the camera is dropped.
- VIDEOAMP
An AMP which provides the 75Ω drives for Y, C and Video signal from DSP under two systems.
- AD
It converts the 2CH image signals (left and right) from the CCD to digital signals.
- TG
It generates a driving waveform of the CCD.
- VDRIVER
It increases a CCD vertical pulse up to the current level required by the CCD.
- SD
It connects a SD drive pulse from DSP to the SD connector.
- GA
It is a gate array that handles the signal processing that takes the 2CH image signals (left and right) and
processes the signals on single monitor, and then sends the signals to DSP. It also controls the motor
operation and flash operation.
- LOCALAD
It mainly converts an analog signal of iris position of motor, etc. to digital signal and sends it to DSP.
- FLASH-ROM
A ROM that contains the program of CPU inside of DSP. It also contains the adjustment data during the
production process.
- LAN Control
It controls the LAN communication function to operate the LAN control while the cradle is being connected.
- LCD Control
It converts the digital VIDEO signal from DSP to the LCD format.
- Motor Control
It converts the control signal to the motor in GA into the driving pulse and the driving signal of motor.
- MPEG Coder
It either converts the image signal (YCrCb) from DSP to the MPEG2 compressed data or converts the
