CLUTCH—-Service Information—Specifications

I n s t a l l a t i o n of S e c o n d T y p e C l u t c h o n E a r l y 452-C
C a r s
A second t y p e c l u t c h a n d flywheel are used o n 4 5 2 - C cars
b e g i n n i n g w i t h engine u n i t 50-24.
T h e change m a d e i n the
c l u t c h is the r e m o v a l of the s t a r t e r r i n g gear from the c l u t c h
center plate to the flywheel, w h i c h c o n s t r u c t i o n is s i m i l a r t o
t h a t used o n the V - 8 a n d V - 1 2 cars.
T h e p a r t n u m b e r of this
second t y p e c l u t c h is 3500109 a n d t h a t o f the
flywheel
is
1096192.
T h i s second type c l u t c h is furnished for replacement o n a l l
452 cars, the " A " a n d " B " series as well as the
" C " series.
I n s t a l l a t i o n o n a l l except 4 5 2 - C cars after engine u n i t 50-23
w i l l also necessitate the i n s t a l l a t i o n of the second type flywheel
w i t h starter gear.
A s the flywheels s u p p l i e d under part n u m b e r 1096192 are
for use o n " A " a n d " B " as well as " C " series cars, t h e y are
s t a m p e d w i t h t w o sets o f i g n i t i o n t i m i n g m a r k s .
These m a r k s
c a n be readily identified, however, as the I G / A m a r k for the
" A " a n d " B " cars is 1
x
/i inches ahead o f center, whereas the
I G / A m a r k for the " C " series is % i n c h ahead o f center.
T h e
I G / A m a r k s c a n b e further identified b y the stampings " A
a n d B m o d e l " a n d " C m o d e l " respectively.

C l u t c h B a l a n c e
Before a c l u t c h leaves the factory, i t is p r o p e r l y balanced
a n d each of the three plates are m a r k e d i n line so t h a t the
plates c a n be l i n e d u p w i t h o u t rebalancing a n y time the c l u t c h
is disassembled.
T h e m a r k i n g consists o f a circle i n w h i c h a
letter m a y appear. I f the circles o n each o f the three plates
are l i n e d u p whenever the c l u t c h is reassembled after dis-
assembly, there s h o u l d be no difficulty experienced of a n out
of balance c o n d i t i o n .
