Selection and Use of Film Magazines

THE H SYSTEM FILM MAGAZINES

The use and operation of the fi lm magazine in the H camera system is described in detail in
Chapter 4.
V SYSTEM MAGAZINES
All Hasselblad rollfi lm magazines in the V system are designed with three parts — the shell,
the darkslide, and the insert that holds the spools — and they are used in the same way
(Figure 8-1).
Magazine shells have serial numbers on the plate that attaches to the camera; fi lm inserts
have a three-digit number engraved between the two fi lm spools. These three numbers should
correspond to the last three digits on the magazine shell as they were matched in the factory
to produce maximum fi lm fl atness. For example, if the magazine number is VC482232, the
insert with the number 232 belongs to it. If inserts are switched, the magazine still works, but
spacing between images may not be as even. Magazines made before 1969 were not auto-
matic and had an opening to see the frame numbers on the paper backing of the fi lm.
