closed until you release the button. If the control does not work as described, it may have to
be programmed accordingly.
The Mirror Lock-Up Control
Normally, the mirror fl ips up when you press the release and goes back into the normal
viewing position after the picture is made. As with all SLR cameras, it is recommended that
you lock the mirror up for longer exposures with a tripod-mounted camera. This is done by
depressing the MUP button at the front of the camera.
In the locked-up mirror position, the shutter in the lens is closed, the aperture is closed,
and the rear auxiliary shutter is open. A locked-up mirror is still locked up after an exposure
and must be brought into the normal viewing position by clicking the Mirror Lock-Up button
again. If the MUP button does not work as described, it may have to be programmed. MUP
custom option must be set at MIRROR UP.
While the mirror lock-up option is a good choice when working from a tripod, it must be
mentioned that the extremely smooth shutter operation in the H camera reduces the need
for this procedure. This allows photography from a lightweight tripod or monopod at slow

CUSTOM OPTIONS

Setting the Options
H cameras give you the possibility of programming custom options that allow the camera to
operate and perform many functions based on your personal preference and specifi c pho-
tographic approach thereby simplifying your photography. This gives you more time to con-
centrate on creating effective images instead of worrying about technicalities and camera
operations.
The custom options can be accessed in two ways. Here is the fi rst:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Turn the front control wheel to SETTINGS.
3. Click the ISO/WB (Drive) button and turn the front wheel to CUSTOM OPTIONS.
4. Click the ISO/WB (Drive) button. Turning the front wheel now brings the options to the screen.
You can accomplish the same thing in a somewhat faster way as follows:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Press the User button, which brings up a custom option User Button Function.
3. Turning the front wheel now brings up all the other custom options (see Figure 4-24).
You change or set the options at the bottom by turning the rear wheel. After programming
any option, you must save it by clicking the ISO/WB (Drive) button. You can, however, change
