BALuSTER SPACING

You are going to install a handrail at the
top of a balcony. Your total span is 4000
mm and you would like the space between
the balusters to be about 100 mm. If each
baluster is 40 mm wide, what is the exact
spacing between each baluster?
KEYSTROKE
1. Divide Length by spacing:
oo
4000M*
140M=*
* Desired spacing plus baluster width
(100 mm plus 40 m)
2. Find total space 'occupied' by the balusters
by multiplying the width of each baluster by
the rounded number of balusters:
40Mx
29=
3. Find total space between all balusters:
4000M-
1160M=
4. Find actual baluster spacing by dividing
total space between all balusters by the
number of spaces between the balusters
(number of balusters plus one equals 30):
2840M*
30=
