Overview

Socket's Wand Scanner (WS) 2E adds affordable
contact bar code scanning capability to Windows-based
Pocket PCs, laptops and tablets with CompactFlash or
PCMCIA card slots. Plug the CF card into your mobile
computer, launch Socket's SocketScan keyboard wedge
software, and scan bar coded data into any Windows
application as substitute keystrokes — it's 50 times
faster and 10,000 times more accurate than manual data
entry. Use an adapter (sold separately) to use the card in
a PCMCIA card slot.
For certain applications, the WS 2E can be much faster and more
convenient than laser or image scanning. Using the wand like a pen or
pencil drawing a line across the bar code, the ergonomics of scanning items
on a flat work surface like a table are much more natural than trying to aim
a laser gun or portable data collection terminal.
Also, scanning a single bar code from a page crowded with bar codes, such
as a sales order entry catalog, is much easier. The wand can also scan bar
codes with a forward or backwards swipe, upside down or right side up, so
the orientation of the label isn't an issue. In addition, the wand is smaller,
lighter, less expensive and uses less battery power than any laser or image
scanner.
Other features of the Wand Scanner 2E include:
• Automatic detection of major bar code symbologies, such as Code 39,
Interleaved 2 of 5, UPC, EAN, and Code 128.
• Mobility Friendly® design maximizes your mobile device's battery life.

About the Software

SocketScan™, software enters scanned data directly into
any active Windows program as if the data were manually
typed. You can configure Prefix/Suffixes and assign a
.WAV file to signify good data reads.
You can use the WS2E with any Windows application that accepts virtual
keyboard entry, such as Notepad, Excel, Word, or their Pocket versions.
