3.1 What to Do First

The Converter is designed to work with 2-wire leased-line modems with a transmit
level of 0 dBm. Make sure that your modem is set at this level before you install the
Converter. For instructions on setting the transmit level, refer to your modem's
user manual or call the modem's manufacturer.

3.2 Installing the Converter

The Converter is designed to operate with 600-ohm VF leased lines only. Follow
these steps to install the Converter:
1. Connect the two-wire modem to the terminal screw block or the RJ-11
connector on the 2W side of the Converter.
2. Connect the four-wire line Transmit and Receive pairs to the 4W terminal
screw blocks marked TD and RD, or connect the line to the RJ-11 modular
jack marked 4W. Figure 3-1 shows a schematic diagram of the connections.

You can mix terminal and jack connections, if required. Both the two-
wire and four-wire connections are not sensitive to polarity, so you can
connect either terminal to Tip or Ring.
