Enjoying Surround Sound

You can take advantage of surround sound
simply by selecting one of the receiver's
pre-programmed sound fields. They bring
the exciting and powerful sound of movie
theaters and concert halls into your home.
To select the sound field, press ;PL/PLII
repeatedly until the sound field you want
appears on the front panel display.

About Dolby Pro Logic II
Dolby Pro Logic II consists of the following
two elements.
• MOVIE mode
The Movie mode is for use with stereo television
shows and all programs encoded in Dolby
Surround. The result is enhanced soundfield
directionality that approaches the quality of discrete
5.1-channel sound.
• MUSIC mode
The Music mode is for use with any stereo music
recordings, and provides a wide and deep sound
space. The Music mode includes controls that allow
the sound to be tailored to individual listening
tastes.

Headphone Theater
When you connect your headphone to the
PHONES jack of the receiver, the
HEADPHONE THEATER mode allows you
to experience a theater like environment
while listening through a pair of
headphones. This mode is very effective
with 5.1 ch discreet signal sources like
Dolby Digital and DTS.
To turn the surround effect off
Press 2 CH.

The receiver memorises the last sound
field selected for each function mode (Sound
Field Link)
Whenever you select a function such as DVD or
TUNER, the sound field that was last applied to the
function is automatically applied again. For example,
if you listen to DVD with PLII Music as the sound
field, then change to another function, and then return
to DVD, PLII Music will be applied again. With the
tuner, sound fields are memorised separately for all
preset stations.

You can identify the encoding format of
programme software by looking at its
packaging
– Dolby Digital discs are labelled with the
– Dolby Surround encoded programmes are labelled
with the
– DTS Digital Surround discs are marked with DTS.
Note
When sound signals with a sampling frequency of 96
kHz are input, the sound signals are output in stereo
automatically, and the sound field is turned off.
