Configuring Your Computer

Before continuing, ensure that your computer is configured correctly by following the steps below.
Note
Refer to the User Guide on the CDROM for configuring from other operating systems.
Windows 98/Me Users:
Open the Control Panel from Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Double click the Network icon to open the Network window.
Double click on TCP/IP to open the TCP/IP properties window.
Click the Gateway tab and remove any installed gateways.
Click the DNS configuration tab and click Disable DNS radio
button.
Click the IP Address tab, and click obtain an IP address
automatically radio button.
Windows 2000/XP Users:
Open the Control Panel from Start > Settings > Control Panel
(Start > Control Panel from Windows XP).
Double click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon
(Network Connections icon in Windows XP).
Right click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
In the Local Area Connection Properties window, double click TCP/IP and click Properties.
Select Obtain an IP address automatically in the TCP/IP properties window, and click Obtain DNS
server address automatically.
Click OK to close the Properties window, and click OK again to apply settings.
Close any additional windows that are open, and Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer.
Restart your DSL or cable modem.
Getting Started with the Nokia IP40
Once the STAT LED turns green, launch your web browser, and type http://my.firewall in the address bar.
The initial login screen appears.

Refer to the Troubleshooting section at the end of this document if you are unable to access the GUI portal.
The IP40 ships without a password defined. Set up the administrator password and press OK.
The Setup Wizard pops up automatically. Use the wizard to configure the IP40 for Internet connection. If
you wish to to use the wizard later, click Cancel.
Choose your Internet connection method from one of the following: Direct LAN, Cable Modem, PPTP or
PPPoE dialer. See your administrator or service provider for completing the WAN details.
