The MVCI software can be updated automatically or manually. If the MVCI does not have the latest software
installed, the HDS automatically takes you to the MVCI reprogramming screen. For more information about
automatic updating of the MVCI firmware, see Automatic Firmware Updates.
To manually start the MVCI reprogramming, click the Program the MVCI button on the HDS Welcome screen, and
see Manual Firmware Updates.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT unplug the external power plug or disconnect the communication cable while the MVCI is
being reprogrammed. Do not interrupt the reprogramming procedure as you may damage the MVCI.
The firmware update process takes about 7 minutes.
Automatic and Manual Firmware Updates
NOTE: Make sure the MVCI is powered through the vehicle DLC or the external power source. Connect the MVCI
to the PC using the communication cable. *Update can complete using wireless but takes much longer.
1. For Automatic updating, start a new vehicle diagnostic
session by clicking the Select a new vehicle button.
2. For Manual update, when on the HDS Welcome
screen, click the Program the MVCI button.
NOTE: Automatic and Manual Firmware Updates go through the same update process after initial update prompt.

HDS MVCI Firmware Update

The following screen appears on the HDS when the
MVCI needs its firmware updated. Click the green
check mark to start the update. If the MVCI has the
latest software installed, this screen won't appear.
The following screen appears. Click YES to continue,
or click NO to close the dialog box and return to the
HDS welcome screen.
