Replacing Safety Belts

CAUTION
A crash can damage the
restraint systems so that they
do not provide proper protec-
tion. This could result in serious
injury or even death in a colli-
sion. To help make sure your
restraint systems are working
properly after a crash, have
them inspected and replaced,
as necessary, as soon as
possible.

If you have been in a collision
where the belts may have been
stretched, or if the safety belt is cut
or damaged, the belt needs to be
replaced. Repairs may be neces-
sary even if the safety belt was not
used at the time of the collision.
Have the restraint system inspect-
ed after a collision.
If you are in a collision serious
enough to deploy the air bags, any
belt worn during the collision must
be replaced.
Your vehicle is equipped with safe-
ty belt pretensioners. Pretension-
ers work only once. If the
pretensioners were activated in a
collision, they will need to be
replaced. If the air bag light stays
on or comes on while you are driv-
ing, have the safety belt preten-
sioners checked. See "Safety Belt
Pretensioners" under "Supplemen-
tal Restraints" later in this section
for more information about this
feature.
