Shift Lock Control System
Your vehicle has an automatic
transmission shift lock control
system which locks the shift lever
in P (Park) when the ignition is off.
You have to fully apply the regular
brakes before you can shift out of
P (Park) when the engine is
running.
If you cannot shift out of P (Park),
ease pressure on the shift lever,
while maintaining brake applica-
tion, then push the shift lever all
the way into park. Try to shift out
of P (Park) into the gear you want.
If you still cannot shift out of P
(Park), then follow these steps:
ENGINE
Acc.
1. With your foot pressing the
brake pedal, press the Acc.
button twice to put the vehi-
cle in accessory mode.
2. Apply and hold the brake
pedal until the end of step 4.
3. Shift the transmission into N
(Neutral).
4. Start the engine and shift the
transmission into the desired
position.
Section 3
If the problem persists, see your
dealer for service.
The shift lock control system may
not operate if your vehicle has a
dead or low-voltage battery.
See "Jump Starting" in Section 5.
