CHARGING SYSTEM

Adjustment
Procedures
The potential{all method determines if the wiring,
including the fusible link, between alternator "8"
terminal and battery (+ ) terminal is
adequate
or
not.
PREPARATION
(1) Turn ignition
switch
OFF.
(2) Remove battery earth
cable.
(3)
Disconnect alternator output line
from
alterna-
tor "8"
terminal.
(4) Connect
0-1004 test
DC ammeter between
"B" terminal and removed output line in
series.
Connect (+
)
lead
wire
of
ammeter
to
"B"
terminal and
(-)
lead wire
to
the
removed
output
line.
NOTE
Use magnetic flux ammeter which does not
require harness
removal.
When checking
a
vehicle
which may
have
output current drop due
to an incomplete
"8"
terminal connection, the sudden connection
of
a
test ammeter loosening the "B" terminal may
miss the trouble cause due
to the
completion
of
connection.
(5)
Connect digital type voltmeter to alternator "B"
terminal and battery
(+
)
terminal. Connect (+
)
lead
wire of voltmeter
to
"B" terminal, and (-)
lead
wire
to battery (+
) terminal.
(6) Connect battery earth
cable.
OUTPUT CURRENT TEST
TEST
Start
engine.
Adjust engine speed until ammeter
indica
20 A. (lf the current is not 20 A, turn
on
position lamps
to
adjust.) Read
the
value
voltmeter.
RESULT
(1) Check
that the
value
on
voltmeter
is
the
standard value
Standard value: 0.2
V or
less
(2) When the
value
is
larger
than
the
standard
value, check
for
defective
wiring
between
alternator "B" terminal, fusible link, and battery
(+ ) terminal. Repair loose contacts or
discol-
ored wires due
to
overheated harness.
Re'
check.
(3) After testing, turn off
lamps and turn ignition
switch
OFF.
(4) Remove battery earth
cable.
(5) Remove ammeter and
voltmeter.
(6)
Connect alternator outlet line
to
alternator "B
terminal.
(7) Connect battery earth
cable.
