DRIVE-CONTROL COMPONENTS - ABS <AWD>
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) <AWD>
The ABS used in the 1995 Eclipse is similar to
the previous one.
Combining the ABS with the AWD system has signifi-
cantly improved the "stopping" as well as "running"
performance of the AWD vehicles. It assures a high
level of running performance under any conditions,
not only on a dry pavement but also on a slippery
road surface.

The AWD version ABS is a 4-sensor, 2-channel
type and is the same as the FWD system except
for the following respects.
Wheel speed sensor rotor (rear) press-fitted
l
in drive shaft
Gap adjustment-free wheel speed sensor and
rotor
Semiconductor type G sensor
l
Sends an AC signal with a frequency proportional to the ro-
tating speed of the individual wheel to the ABS-ECU.
Sends an ON/OFF signal to the ABS-ECU depending on
vehicle acceleration/deceleration.
Sends a signal to the ABS-ECU indicating whether the
brake pedal is pressed or not.
Controls braking pressure for each wheel depending on the
signal from the ABS-ECU.
Includes built-in select-low valve
Supplies power to the ABS-ECU.
Closes contact in response to a signal from the ABS-ECU to
allow the power to be supplied to the motor in the HU.
Is turned ON by the ABS-ECU signal and supplies power to
the solenoid valve in HU.
Is in the combination meter and lights up when there is
trouble in ABS.
Outputs diagnostic trouble codes.
Controls the actuators such as HU according to the signals
from the individual sensors.
