1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 The Alpha Advantage Advanced Power Protection Technology Alpha's Novus P1250 and 1250T Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides continuous, conditioned, AC power. The enclosure protects it from the weather for safe mounting for almost anyplace where power is needed.

External Alarm Terminal Block An external alarm panel can be connected to this terminal block to display a low battery warning. The operator supplies the panel. Pedestal Mounting: The pedestal mounts to a concrete pad, floor, or other horizontal surface and is ordered separately from Alpha Technologies. It is secured with three inch–20 bolts or bolts /studs embedded into a concrete pad or threaded inserts.
2. INSTALLATION 2.2 Wall Mounting PURPOSE: Describes how to wall or host mount the UPS (Figures 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4). DANGER: Read the safety instructions in the introduction of this manual. WARNING: The rain–proof Type 3R enclosure provides weather protection in normal operating conditions. Where there is a risk of snow buildup or flooding, mount the UPS as high as possible.

Do not connect these wires. NOTE: Any heater wiring in the host equipment should not receive its power from the UPS since this can cause a system failure.

3 OPERATION 3.5 Troubleshooting Resetting the UPS after troubleshooting When the operator has fixed the fault, pushing the Test button resets the UPS, clearing the fault from the panel and it goes into one of the modes in Figure 3.3. If the fault is not fixed, the fault code reappears.
3 OPERATION 3.6 Front Panel Indicators and Controls PURPOSE: Describes how to operate the UPS with the Display and Control Panel (Figure 3.4). The LEDs show what mode it is in and are used for troubleshooting. They automati- cally change to show the UPS's status. The Test, % Batt and % Load buttons are pressed to activate various functions.
3 OPERATION 3.6.1 On Line and On Battery LEDs PURPOSE: Describes how the On Line, On Battery and Boost modes appear on the LEDs. On Line Mode: The 25% (On Line) LED is ON. Line voltage is between 88% to 113% of rated voltage and the UPS is operating normally with line power provided to the loads.
3 OPERATION 3.6.2 Low Battery LED PURPOSE: Describes how the Low Battery LED warns of a discharged battery. Discharged Battery: When the 75% (Low Battery) LED is ON, the battery is discharged. If the UPS is in On Battery mode, it will shut down in a few minutes, depending on the size of the load.
3 OPERATION 3.6.3 Percentage Power Indicator PURPOSE: Describes how the LEDs show the UPS's power output. Start Press the % load button for 1 second. The LEDs become a power meter showing the UPS's approximate power output. Example: = 75% of maximum output power WARNING: The UPS can be operated at any value up to 100%, but do NOT run it when the 110% LED is ON.
3 OPERATION 3.6.4 Battery Charge Indicator PURPOSE: Describes how the LEDs show the % battery charge. Start Press the % Batt button for 1 second. The LEDs become a battery meter showing the battery's approxi- mate charge. Example: = Batteries are 100% charged.
3 OPERATION 3.6.5 Test/Manual Start Button PURPOSE: Describes the two functions of the test button. 3.5.6.1 Test: In On Line mode, pressing down it down for seven seconds starts the self test (Section 3.4). 3.5.6.2 Manual Start: If the LEDs are sequentially flashing (Section 3.6.6), pressing it down for one second switches the UPS into On Battery mode.

The red connector slides into red connector, the black connector slides into the black connector. Turn the battery circuit breaker ON. Exit Hot Swap Mode (Section 3.6.7).
The most common problems, symptoms and causes are listed in Figure 5.2. It starts off with the simplest problems, working to the most complex. If the operator can not resolve the problem, contact Alpha Technologies. Maintenance and troubleshooting should only be done by qualified personnel.

5.6 Return Instructions PURPOSE: Describes how to return the UPS for repair. Before returning a UPS to Alpha Technologies, a Return Material Authorization (RMA) must first be obtained from Alpha’s customer service department. It should be clearly marked on the original shipping container. If it is no longer available, the new container should be packed with at least three inches of shock–absorbent material.
