ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

H - 1

GENERAL

All electrical equipment on the Four Winns Vista™
models operates on 12 volts DC or 120 volts (220 volts
on 50 Hertz models) AC electrical power. Depending
on the Vista™ model, a dual battery or triple battery
system along with dockside power (including battery
charger) is available. Batteries are located in the en-
gine compartment.
Fire or Explosion Hazard!
Electrical system parts are designed by and
manufactured to comply with the U.S. Coast
Guard requirements to minimize risks of fire
or explosion. Never substitute automotive
parts for marine parts. Automotive parts do
not provide the necessary ignition spark pro-
tection.
DO NOT tamper with any electrical connection,
panel or harness, or attempt installation of any
electrical equipment unless thoroughly familiar
with the systems and experienced in making
such installations.
Circuit breakers are installed on the battery switch to pro-
tect various system components. The SHIP SYSTEMS
breaker supplies power to all DC electrical components
except the aft and forward bilge pumps, ignition, and
instrumentation. Additional breakers are located in the
cabin circuit breaker panel. The circuit breakers and
fuses are labeled for amperage and use.

SINGLE ENGINE - SINGLE BATTERY SYS-
TEM
A. Single Battery System
On certain Vista™ models, a single battery is provided
as standard equipment (12 volt DC) per Section H-1
above. The 12 volt DC components are protected by a
fuse panel either located below the helm or starboard
of the helm, below the throttle shift control.

back of this manual.

When installing the battery, proceed as follows:
1. Connect the red (positive) cable running from the
battery switch to the positive (+) battery terminal.
2. Connect the black (negative) battery cable running
from the engine block to the negative (-) battery
terminal.

When disconnecting the cables from the battery,
make sure all switches are off and disconnect
the black negative cable first to prevent spark.
DO NOT disconnect the battery while the engine
is running. Alternator damage could result.
Monitor the alternator output voltage with the voltmeter
in the dash panel. For additional information, refer to
Section H-13 - Electrical System Maintenance.
B. Battery Selector Switch - On/Off Position
"OFF" - With the battery selector switch in the "OFF"
position, all 12 volt power to the ships systems is shut
off except to the automatic bilge pump and stereo.
Circuit breakers are provided on the battery selector
switch panel to protect the aft bilge, stereo and 12 volt
receptacle. Always turn the battery selector switch to
the "OFF" position when the boat is unattended for an
extended period.
