PINPOINT TEST L: THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
CONDITIONS
L1 CHECK BASE BRAKE SYSTEM
L2 CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND PARKING BRAKE
L3 CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
Parking Brake Switch C254
L4 CHECK CIRCUIT 162 (LG/RD)
Instrument Cluster C236

The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
Check the base brake system.
Is the base brake system OK?
Yes
GO to L2.
No
REFER to
Section
206-00.
Check the parking brake control and brake fluid level.
Is the parking brake control fully disengaged and the brake fluid level at the correct level?
Yes
GO to L3.
No
DISENGAGE the parking brake control and FILL the brake fluid to the correct level as necessary. CLEAR the
DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
Measure the resistance between parking brake switch (component side) and ground while engaging and fully
disengaging the parking brake control.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the parking brake engaged and greater than 10,000 ohms with
the parking brake fully disengaged?
Yes
GO to L4.
No
INSTALL a new parking brake switch. REFER to
Measure the resistance between instrument cluster C236 pin 17, circuit 162 (LG/RD), harness side and parking
brake switch C254, circuit 162 (LG/RD), harness side; and between instrument cluster C236 pin 17, circuit 162
(LG/RD), harness side and ground.

206-05. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
