Firmware Upgrade
In the past, it was uncommon for machines of segments 1 and 1a to use Flash ROM technology. In these
segments EEPROM technology was mainly used. This was an inflexible way to go because a simple firmware
update could usually not be performed easily. And if so, a second customer visit was often necessary.
Since there are more and more notebooks used in the field, it seemed plausible to also use them for firmware
update procedures. The first way is to use an USB 1.1 compatible interface and the Windows operation
systems Win98/ME or Windows2000/XP, because neither Windows95 nor NT4.0 provide a default USB
compatibility.
Another way to update the firmware of the fax version is to use RSD. For details regarding this Remote
Software please refer to Remote Setup & Diagnostic. The third way to update the firmware is to use a ineo
163/213 connected to another ineo 163/213. In that case, the machine with the newer firmware can "call" the
other and update the firmware using the telephone connection.
