Document conventions

XEROX 4850/4890 HIGHLIGHT COLOR LPS FORMS CREATION REFERENCE
This reference is intended for forms designers who have basic
knowledge of the 4850 or the 4890 HighLight Color Laser
Printing System (LPS). You may have received on-site training, or
you may have attended a Xerox forms description language (FDL)
training course.
Forms designer's tasks consists of writing FDL commands to
produce electronic forms. These tasks include entering source
code into the LPS to create new electronic forms, as well as
updating, revising, and printing the forms on the laser printing
system. If you are also responsible for printing variable data on
the form in addition to performing other operations on the
printer, refer to the related documents provided with your laser
printing system.
This guide uses the following conventions:

Angle brackets are used for keys on the system controller
keyboard.
{ }
Curly brackets are used for required characters.
...
Ellipses indicate that you can repeat a parameter or list a series of
parameters.
[ ]
Square brackets are used for optional command characters.
|
Vertical bars are used to separate parameters in a series. The
vertical bar stands for "or."
bold
Bold is used for characters you enter at the command line.
italics
Italics is used for variable information.
Terminal or monospace font is used to display system responses.
TERMINAL FONT
underline
System default parameters are underlined.
UPPERCASE
Uppercase letters are used for command names.
