The EGO ST1200 trimmer may just click when the trigger is pressed due to one or more of the following reasons:

1. The battery pack is not attached to the trimmer.
2. There is no electrical contact between the battery and the trimmer.
3. The battery pack is depleted.
4. The battery pack or trimmer is too hot.
5. The lock-off lever and trigger are not pressed simultaneously.
6. The motor is overloaded.

To fix this, ensure the battery is properly attached, charged, and cool. Also, press the lock-off lever and trigger at the same time. If the motor is overloaded, remove the battery, clean the cutting attachment, and restart the trimmer.
