gAS REqUIREMENTS/CONNECTION

ROUTINg THE gAS-LINE

Route a 1/2" (13 mm) gas-line (not provided)
to the appliance.
It is preferable to bring the gas-line in from
the left side (as shown in Figure 17); however,
the gas-line also may enter the fireplace from
the right side or bottom.
Note: Properly size and route the gas sup-
ply line from the supply regulator to the
area where the appliance is to be installed
per requirements outlined in the National
Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 54, latest edition
(USA) or CAN/CGA-B149.1, latest edition
(Canada).
For additional requirements for installa-
tions in the state of Massachusetts (USA),
see the section titled "Massachusetts
Requirements" in this manual.

Control Compartment Access

To access the control compartment,
remove the following components, in
this order:
1. Optional surround
2. Optional bezel
3. Glass door assembly
4. Floor kit
5. Burner assembly
6. Control compartment access panel
(in firebox bottom; see Figure 18).
For instructions on removal/reinstallation
of these components, see the Rhap-
sody Required and Optional Accessories
manual 506019-84.

CONNECTINg TO THE gAS SUPPLy

IMPORTANT: Do NOT connect the
fireplace to the gas supply line until
fireplace installation is complete.
1. Refer to Figure 18. Route the gas supply
line into the firebox through the gas sup-
ply line access opening to the point it will
connect to the gas flex-line and gas-line
shutoff valve.
2. Unscrew the shutoff valve from the gas
flex-line. Apply thread sealant appropri-
ate for the gas type, and then connect the
shutoff valve to the gas stub.
IMPORTANT: Position the shutoff
valve to allow easy operation of the
knob through the access opening in
the fireplace floor.
3. Connect the flare fitting on the flex-line
to the shutoff valve. Tighten by hand, and
then use a pipe wrench to tighten com-
pletely, 1/4-turn at a time.
4. Leak-test all fittings.
